About
Hello! I am Gabriel Duci, a user experience designer. Mostly, I'm an artistic type, though I have a background in computer science. And I must confess, I’ve ended up qualifying pretty strongly as a people person. So as you might imagine, when I first began learning about the field of UX Design, I was struck by how perfect it felt for me.
Fast forward some time later, and I've completed General Assembly's UX Design Immersive course and now I work as a UX consultant. I’m looking forward to continuing doing work that I love, pursuing rewarding projects, and adding value wherever I can.
I like to think there is a deeper meaning to every event in my life. And sometimes, I believe I can sense part of what that deeper meaning might be. Having spent the last two years living in Israel, studying in yeshiva, I can say that talmudic studies have played a major role for me as I've grown as a individual, deepening my appreciation for the ways in which the technical and the intuitive parts of the mind can embrace each other.
I was also the guitarist/singer/songwriter in a band for over 10 years. By now, I've written a lot of music and still try to do live stuff once in a while. Maybe it's a cliche, but these days I find that the main point of music is to reveal that, on some level, everything else can be like music. In particular, I often find that a good user experience can feel something like good music.
As Don Norman discusses toward the beginning of his classic work, "The Design of Everyday Things," the essence of good design is avoiding bad design. Now, perhaps the essence of a good melody might be avoiding bad notes, but I'm more interested in those "magic" notes. The ones that make you say "wow," yet are natural and even curiously familiar.
So, I hope to see you soon and maybe we can get into some of those more "magical" designs sometime!
